Lodranite (single scan)

Single scan of lodranite GRA95209 illustrating the interfingering of metal (bright) with matrix (mottled grays) and inclusions of graphite globules (dark) within the metal. Mm-scale metal-poor zones (darker gray) appear in the lower portion of the scan. The linear surface at lower left is the intersection of the sawn surface with the scan plane. Straight sawn surface is approximately 60 mm in length. (Sample courtesy of Dr. Tim McCoy, Smithsonian Institution, and Dr. Marilyn Lindstrom, NASA).
