Migmatitic garnet-amphibolite (3D recon)

3D reconstruction of migmatitic garnet-amphibolite. Garnets and melanosomes are rendered transparent, and leucosomes rendered white. Edge length of sample is 45 mm. Nearly complete connectivity of the leucosome, not apparent in any 2D section, is evident in the 3D reconstructions. These CT data made it possible to trace the connectivity of leucosome channels, to quantify their tortuosity, to document the variations of their cross-sectional areas and minimum channel apertures, and to estimate the effective porosity in the specimen at stagnation.
